Psalm 23......
Even though there are, and will still be times of walking through the darkest valleys in this life, don't stop walking!
Jesus is not just my Savior, He is also my Shepherd. Just the mention of His Name calms my fears. Sometimes when I can't even find the words to say, I just say Jesus. He makes all darkness tremble. His Name is the light that even shadows can't deny.
When you pick apart this popular Psalm, you can really see how important it is for Jesus not to just be your Savior, but also your Shepherd. The definition of shepherd is, one who guides or directs sheep in a particular direction. Then I heard a sermon on other meanings of this Psalm as it pertains to sheep (us) and a Shepherd (Jesus). Sheep are known to be very dumb animals. I'm not saying we are dumb, but without direction a sheep will go right over a cliff. Sometimes life can take you to the very edge. Personally, I need direction! Verse 3, "He guides me along the right path for His Name's sake." This means I should certainly trust Him.
Here is a very interesting fact. When shepherds gather around a well for water with their sheep, all the flocks would get mixed together. They are not branded like some animals. The way sheep would know their shepherd, was by the sound of their voice when they would call; come, come. John 10: 27 " My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me." I just love that!! and I just love my Jesus!!!
