On Fire....Sanctus Real

1 Peter 1: 22, …. “Love one another deeply from the heart.”

When I listen to this song it takes me back to many memories of when my girls were in youth group. Oh how those kids were on fire. I would stand in the back and watch them worship. I remember, I think it was once a year, they would meet and pray at school in the court yard in remembrance of the Columbine shooting in 1999. A program called “I Believe.” Rachel Scott took a fatal shot in the temple, after she was asked by the killers who were already on a rampage killing many, “ do you still believe in God now?” She said “yes”, and they said, “then go be with him.” Her brother said she always prayed for these boys.
What was a tragedy, turned out also for good. Thousands of teenagers lives were changed that day by her faith and love for Jesus. She was a life “On Fire.” It is so different now. I feel heartbroken for each generation rising. Boldness for Christ just isn’t what it used to be.

The lyrics of this song are so true….. Remember when you couldn’t wait to show up early and find your place. Your heart was open for change. You would sing and lift your hands not caring what people think. You weren’t ashamed to tell people about your faith because you felt the pain of one lost soul. Cause you were on fire, and the church was more than a place, and people were more than a faces, and Jesus was more than a Name…

What happens to some of us? That soft heart that use to break when God’s heart breaks, is slowly being put out by the pressures, burdens, and the business of life. Or not wanting to offend anyone with the truth, even though it is what Jesus spoke and died for. Wanting to stay popular with the crowd, and so on…..

This should never happen, but the enemy knows how to pull us away from what we know is truth, and he does it VERY slowly. He doesn’t want you to grow, or the assembly of one another. He will have you find all kinds of excuses for you not to meet with one another.

Hebrews 10: 25 says, “Let us NOT GIVE UP meeting together…. But let us encourage one another, and all the more as you see the day approaching.” To neglect this time together, is to give up encouragement and help of other Christians. We gather together to share our faith. To help one another through hard times that we have passed through. To strengthen one another in Jesus. As we see the “day approaching” and it is. We see Anti-Christian forces growing in strength, we should be making an even greater effort to grow together and strengthen one another.

Like Jesus, and as His followers, our hearts should break for souls that are slipping away. The day is approaching, so turn your eyes and don’t forget what it was like to be “On fire” Hold God’s people close and feel the power of Jesus’ Name.
